Bham Lit Fest Workshop 2: Poetry for Beginners – with Casey Bailey

Reading or performing your poetry is becoming a much larger part of the life of a poet, but how prepared are we for this? As we transition back into the world of live poetry readings, this workshop will give you some things to consider as you look at how you want your work to present on the stage.

Bring a poem that you want to work on, and let’s play with tempo, volume, emotion and intonation.

For poets of all levels of experience, including beginners.

 

About the host:

Casey Bailey is the current Birmingham Poet Laureate and is a writer, performer and educator, born and raised in Nechells, Birmingham, UK. Casey released his debut full collection of poetry, Adjusted in 2018 with Verve Poetry Press and his second collection Please Do Not Touch with Burning Eye in 2021. Casey’s play GrimeBoy was commissioned by the Birmingham Rep and performed in early 2022. Casey’s poetry has featured in a number of anthologies and he was commissioned by the BBC to write The Ballad of The Peaky Blinders in 2019. He has performed his poetry nationally, and internationally.
