As a volunteer Assistant Writer, you would be required to support delivering the workshop with the Lead Writer for about two hours every month between September and June. At first, these sessions will be online, but we may move to in-person sessions in the new year. Our groups are for young people between the ages of 7 – 11, 10 – 15 and 12 – 17.
What does the role involve?
Your main role will be to assist the lead writer, and how this looks will vary from group to group, but here are some tasks you can expect to do:
- Taking the register and general administrative tasks
- Session planning with the lead writer
- Supporting the Lead Writer to help the sessions go smoothly
- Reading and sharing feedback on young people’s work
- Being the most enthusiastic person in the Zoom Room!
- Delivering activities and exercises
We will provide training before the sessions begin, and throughout your time with us there will be plenty of opportunities to develop particular skills or experiences you would like! Let us know how you can get the most out of your time working on the Spark Young Writers Programme.
This is a new kind of challenge for the Spark Young Writers, but we feel with the right team beside us we can create a fun and exciting environment for young people to get writing! Want to join us? Apply here or drop us an email to chat about it.
To apply, please complete our online application form and upload a CV to demonstrate your suitability for the post.
This is a voluntary post, but we will cover reasonable travel expenses.
